Straight outta Llandudoch in a handmade sleeve, 'Ambiance Brut' is 15 tracks of minimal electronic experimentation. Essentialy, its someone fervidly twiddling knobs on analogue synthesisers to create evolving, if you will, 'tonescapes' (sorry). But its not the mechanics of music creation that are important but the results - and brooding, hypnotic work stands comparison with Coils 'Time Machines'. No mean feat, considering Coils record was done on about 10 million pounds worth of equipment, high on Yage, during a solar eclipse, whilst this was probably done after three cans of Tennants Super, in a shed, during a period spent 'actively seeking work'. 4/5 DUNCAN BELL - MUZIK - SEPTEMBER 2001
